NY Times Tells a Whopper: “McCain Joins Obama on Offshore Drilling”
By Bill Dupray, The Patriot Room
August 3rd, 2008
The New York Times really knows how to spread a little icing on an oily flip-flop.
On Wednesday, here is Obama in Springfield, Missouri, calling offshore drilling the Republicans “latest scheme” and saying, “So If I thought that by drilling offshore, we could solve our problem, I’d do it.”:
Then on Friday in Florida, 2 days later, Lieutenant Toolbag is suddenly in favor of offshore drilling:
In Florida, Obama said that he remained concerned about potential environmental damage from offshore drilling but was open to compromise.
“My interest is in making sure we’ve got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices,” Obama said in an interview with The Palm Beach Post. “If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well-thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage – I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done.”
Wednesday he was too rigid. By Friday he had become . . . flaccid? Way to stand on principle Citizen of the World. But wait, it gets better.
One day later, the brand new drilling flip-flop still fresh out of the wrapper, the New York Times runs a headline in its Global paper, the International Herald Tribune, that McCain joins Obama on Offshore Drilling.
A day after Senator Barack Obama said he could support broad energy legislation even though it would permit offshore oil drilling, which he has opposed, an aide to Senator John McCain said Sunday that he too might support such a package.
Commence slapping of foreheads.
They key here is that McCain switched his position to favoring drilling when $4.00 per gallon gas threatens the lives of every American. Obama opposes it Wednesday, supports it Friday, The Times conveys title to the drilling issue to Obama on Saturday, and at no time does Obama acknowledge he changed his position at all.
You see, The Messiah is always consistent, never wrong, and as he says, “never” has any doubts.
