Why are Christians hated and discriminated against?

Why are Christians hated and discriminated against because of their beliefs?

I find it interesting in this world of “tolerance” and love of “diversity”, there is none of that offered to Christians. Folks are tolerant of everyone and everything else, but not of Christians. Christians (or at least the brand I’m talking about) believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is the guide for the way we live. We believe it to be inerrant and infallible. That’s what we base our lives on. We don’t make the rules, we follow the rules. However we don’t make OTHERS follow this if they don’t want to.

I think one misconception – or maybe it’s not a misconception, I think it’s purposefully put out there by people who just don’t like us – is that anything we disagree with, we hate. Some think that anything we think is wrong (according to Scripture), we hate. If we don’t like a behavior or lifestyle – whether it be premarital sex, abortion, homosexuality, drug use -then we must hate the people. Well, I’m here to say THAT IS NOT TRUE!

I know some folks are angry that I don’t want the gay agenda forced into the public schools. Is that because I don’t like gays? NO. It’s just that I don’t think the public school is the place where that should be addressed. Parents should have the say over what their kids are taught regarding those issues. I also would not like pre-marital sex forced on the kids. I don’t want them taught that pre-marital sex – whether it be gay or not – is an acceptable choice. But does that mean I hate all the people who have pre-marital sex? Of course not. If so, I wouldn’t have many friends.

I’m against abortion and I don’t want it taught to my kids as an acceptable option, but that doesn’t mean I hate people who have abortions. I just wish that people would realize that we may stand FOR or AGAINST something, based on our belief system, but it does not mean we hate the people. Why can’t our beliefs be tolerated?

Do you know how many Christians are involved in charities, ministries, and organizations that help the very people we are accused of hating? Christians are very giving people, and in fact, a study was done not long ago that showed Conservatives (specifically Christians) were the most giving, charitable people.

I know some people find that surprising, but it’s true. The reason we find it surprising is because it’s been drummed into our heads by the mainstream media that liberals are the compassionate, giving ones, when in fact, the opposite is true.

As far as the school situation goes, it’s not only Biblical issues that I speak out against in our public schools. Frankly, I’m a firm believer that parents know what is best for their kids, not the gov’t and the schools. We don’t need the gov’t to tell us what a kid can eat or drink for lunch. We don’t need gov’t to teach them how to put on condoms. Let us, the parents, decide that. I want the school to teach my kids the basics (the three R’s), some discipline, and respect for authority, and let me handle the rest.

Now I’m sure a few will say “Some kids don’t have good parents and they won’t be taught all the right things, therefore the school needs to do it”. Well, if that’s the case, then that kid’s got a bigger problem than the school can handle and the proper authorities need to be contacted to look into it.

So now you know why I don’t want the gay agenda in the public school – NOT because I hate gays, but because it’s just not the school’s job.

What about the lack of tolerance for our beliefs. As I said above, we have beliefs, but we do NOT force them on others. And before anyone screams, “Yes you do force them on others!!”, sit back and think about that statement. Do we really? We may mention or discuss our beliefs. We may DO or NOT DO certain things (drinking, partying, whatever) based on our beliefs. We may like “under God” in the pledge. We may think abortion and homosexuality is against Scripture. We may think ‘sleeping around’ is also against Scripture. But do we FORCE that on people? No. No one has to convert to our beliefs. No one has to say “under God” in the pledge if they don’t want to. Everyone is able to live how they want to live – sex, booze, and whatever else they want. And what happens if they don’t do as we Christians like???? Nothing. Absolutely nothing! We won’t kill you. We won’t demand you be jailed. We won’t give you the finger. We’ll do…nothing. In fact, we still love you and want to be your friend. Maybe we’ll pray for you too, but that’s about it.

So why do some folks see us as such a threat and say we’re dangerous and hateful?
Why do those same folks think we should tolerate the Muslim beliefs? Muslims treat their women horribly, advocate killing gays, advocate killing people who don’t convert to their religion, and people still speak up for their right to have a differing culture and opinion? Why aren’t those same folks defending Christians’ rights?

So many people have strong beliefs about things and they’re very passionate, and they all get defended for that, except for Christians.

PETA has strong views and actually goes over the line sometimes in how they protest those who don’t agree (throwing paint on people), but everybody excuses it because of their ‘passion’ and their strong belief in something that matters to them.

The same can be said about some extreme environmentalists who go to unbelievable measures to get their points across.

If they can be excused for their passion, and their views can be respected, then why can’t Christians be treated the same way? Why do they call it hate on our part? We really believe what we believe, so why can’t they tolerate us?

I guess I just don’t get how folks can tolerate a religion that would kill them and not tolerate a religion that just disagrees with them.

Person need to live by their personal conviction.
You quote Einstein; at least you are doing something! 😉

I think there are some people in this country that want to change it. Attacking Christians would be the best place to start. Our country was built on Christian beliefs, therefore it is our foundation. You do away with the foundation, the house comes tumbling down.

I completely agree with everything you said. Everyother group that feels strongly about something can protest and do horrible things to people they disagree with. Christians, on the other hand, better keep their mouths shut. I just praise the Lord that we have Christ on our side.

I think that Christians are hated by the libs because they have become a major force in American politics and they don’t like it. The libs counter that the Christians want to create a theology which is rediculous. Since President Bush is a practicing Christian, he is also hated (makes sense). I believe also that there is some jealousy involved here. Recent surveys have shown that Christians far outshine the libs when it comes to good citizenship (more productive families, more generous giving, more willing to serve in the armed forces, etc.). Also, I think that when some libs look at Christians, deep down they realize what they themselves are lacking. I do not formally belong to a church so I feel that I am being impartial here.

Well put and all of the other comments are great as well! But I think the main reason they hate us is because Jesus said If they hated him they will hate us also. It’s him they are rejecting. It’s him they are hating. It is the spirit of AntiChrist that has been in the world since Christ came to redeem us. We just need to pray for strength and love to deal with it because it is a part of the Christian walk, and to pray for those who persecute us.

Excellent article. As a Christian, I was disliked in all countries I grew up, namely, Middle East, Asia, and now the USA. But I don’t care. Notice the antiChristian crap they show on TV…especially history channel. But you shouldn’t worry about this stuff coz they’re supposed to happen us.

I agree with you! I was just on YouTube watching some Agnostic girl from Romania call me stupid because I’m a Christian and all this, but never attacked anyone in Atheism who hated Homosexuality (which she loves homosexuality) and she wouldn’t talk badly about anyone else except Christians! Let’s stop that discrimination.

I completely agree, but let me put it this way Christ said in Matthew 10:34 (NIV) “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
It also says in Matthew 24:9 (NIV) “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.”
Did you notice that as soon as Christianity was no longer persecuted thats when it became corrupt, also if you truly have the Spirit of God living inside of you, anyone without His Spirit having a minute impact on their life will not like you. As soon as you stand for the light all the forces of darkness will try and extinguish your light, Satan tried to wipe us out by force, didnt work out. So now His new idea of tolerance has come to be, tolerance of anyone but us. For whoever is not with us will eventually be against us, for one cannot serve two masters, either he will love one and hate the other. 🙂 well thats alls i wanted to say, remember the Bible is flawless and dont do drugs and evolution is a lie 😀 just thought id throw that out there 🙂

Whole lotta hypocrisy up in this here page!
Look up Christian history.

Oh and it’s your unending ability to continue believing in an anthropomorphic parent-figure even in the face of hard-fact, logic and general knowledge which aggravates us non-Christian’s.

And that hate is applicable to any ignorance propagating faith, not just Christianity, just turns out your lot are the most prominent faction and thus hold the human race back the most.

I disagree, Misanthropy. Yes there were many corrupt “christians” in history, or rather self-proclaimed christians. If they did the things they did- murder, enslave, and kill for money, than they weren’t christian. It’s like saying the christian religion is tainted because of Hitler. Hitler was not a christian, he just said he was to gain power in Europe. He was actually a devout Darwinist, interested so much in survival of the fittest and the superior race that he killed millions of people. He was very interested in the occult also. Just because somebody says they are a christian doesn’t make them one, it’s in the heart, and God knows all of our hearts. More onto the topic now: christians and conservatives seem to be the butt of all jokes and discrimination. Think of all the news stations save fox, think of the daily show and the colbert report- supposed to be “equal,” lol give me a break. And last but not least: think of family guy, especially this new season. MacFarlane is a big time liberal activist and atheist, and his popular shows get his message out to millions of Americans every week. A new study by cnn says that America as a whole is becoming less religious. This has been prophesized.

In the bible JEsus was hated and he said no one is greater then their master. As time goes on Christians will continue to be persecuted more, and think they are doing the work of God at the same time.

Many of the leaders of the world are into the occult and they twist Christian words to make people think that they are Christian when they are not.Research the New World Order and one of their goals is to get rid of all religions of the world accept for New Age,Paganism, and other religion that says God is not the supreme being in the universe. Examples include one can become God or God is everything like Panathestic religions.

The bible does not want people to live like the world, but to live as the kingdom of heaven. Christians must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.Second, preach the gospel and try to save souls because that is wise.

In conclusion walking the Christian life is not easy, and you will be hated.Satan hates when people get saved.Saving souls goes against what he wants people to join him in hell. Keep the commandments of God and follow the bible, even if it means death. That is why Jesus said take your cross and follow me.

In the world a true Christian will most likely never have fame, riches, friends, and popularity.

Here’s why…

Wow…simple answers to people making it complcated it is basically what Jesus says be Salt to this World and heal the open wound ever had salt on a open wound?Hurts like nonother basically they hate us becasue we are Salt people hate salt on a open wound which is them

“In the world a true Christian will most likely never have fame, riches, friends, and popularity.” Christianity is the largest religion on the planet. There are more rich, famous, and popular christians than there are of any other creed of people.

Also, in response to Ms. “ukllenantes *lina* oppolycan”‘s comment,
…What?

You Just said it like it is we are the ones that are hated, there as been some dark times in the history of Christains but we are the ones that loves our falow man more then any other.

I am a young woman who had a girl come out to me. She makes me feel “uncomfortable”. She brings her gay friends to my locker, stands close to me, and follows me. When I tell her to stop she does not listen. Eventually I will have to tell her I do not accept her lifestyle and that I feel uncomfortable. It is sad that in this society that I would need to remain quiet for so long. People even told me that a woman was interested in me (and she is openly homosexual). But as soon as she learned other adults would not tolerate her subtle attraction she left the church. But if I had told her myself “I am not interested in women.” She may not have stopped. Its not true of all gays i am sure but she is immoral. She cheats with my god sister (who is married to a man) and sadly everyone in my church knows.
Now after reading your blog,(and talking to my minister of course)I have decided I have no choice, as a young woman in Christ I cannot afford to have deep ties with non-believers. Atheists and pagans don’t bother me. At one time I was BOTH! I understand and love all people. You got some mean Christians out there but they are misguided, most arn’t murderers though. Hey, you can bet if someone is teasing you it ain’t me. As soon as you become a christian its like everyone leaves you. But would I trade my new life for the old me, NOPE! I am glad I listened to the call when I did.

You are so right. It almost makes me sick to see some of the things that people write about Christians on the Internet. I know that some people really do ask for it. I mean, by arguing and hating them back. But a true Christian really is someone who is beaten down by the world. They use the fact that since not every nominal Christian out there was perfect, then they have a right to say that Christians as a whole are mean and dangerous. This is totally against what a real Christian is. A real Christian is a person who is full of the love of God and prays even for their enemies. To the people who really are out there who are real Christians, the intolerance and hate and discrimination is hard to deal with…but it is expected and Christ will help us love those people nonetheless.

Very Interesting. Does the whining ever stop? While mainstream Xtianity is out there persecuting others of different or no beliefs, you have the audacity to complain about how you are being treated. You belong to a belief system that has many internal problems. How can you conquer the world if you can not conquer the own division in you belief system?

Obviously you so called “xtians” don’t even read your own bible. Let’s take a look

Matthew 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans

Matthew 15:22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon possession.

Matthew 15:24 He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.

The list goes on.

Point being that all you xtians are loving someone that doesn’t love you. only until he was persecuted is when he decieded to preach to the Gentiles.

Well, I don’t mean to sound like I “whining” as you put it. I’m just trying to defend my faith. I know that there is a lot of discrimination against many different kinds of groups, and I wish them all well and do them no wrong, but naturally when people speak out against my religion without really understanding it, I feel inclined to defend it. I’m not trying to shove my beliefs down you throat, but I want you to simply understand my view before you respond. Its my job to present my views, not force them.

Firstly, you’re right. There is no main group/philosophy that every so-called Christian agrees with. Some churches think that they’re the only ones who are good enough for heaven and fight with other churches and other people outside of church, and create a hot mess. (These people might call themselves Christians, but may also be wrong in their hearts and just putting on an act, while someone who doesn’t even know as nearly much as them about “Christianity” may just follow their conscious and please God more by being humble…)

Of course, we will probably never unite together and “conquer the world” until the very end when HE will separate us together as His own (Matthew 25:31-46) I do not think it is our place to conquer the world. In fact, clearly, Revelation shows that there will come a time when we will all be gone and evil will be the only leading force in the world for seven years. When it comes down to it, we’re only human and incapable of doing this without Jesus here leading us. All we can do now is try to be a source of good in the world by continuing to honor God through our goodness of heart in spite of everything.

To clarify, I believe strongly that The Gospel is inclusive of ALL people, backed by countless verses (Matt 25:31-46; Luke 15:2-32; Luke 19:10; John 1:9,29; John 3:16-17; John 4:42; John 6:33,51; John 12:31-32; Acts 10:1-35; Acts 14:16-17; Acts 17:23-28; Romans 2:6-16; Romans 5:6,15-20; Romans 11:12,15. 1 Cor. 15:24-28. 2 Cor. 5:14-15,19; Eph. 1:10; Phil. 2:10-11; Col. 1:20. 1 Tim. 2:4,6. 1 Tim. 4:10; Titus 2:11; Hebrews 2:9; James 1:27. 2 Peter 3:9. 1 John 2:2. 1 John 4:14; Rev. 20:12; Rev. 21:24; Rev. 22:2.) Notice they include words like ALL, the WORLD, and all the NATIONS…Jesus initially began preaching to the Jew, I think to pave a way to include the Gentiles as well in due time. And, of course he did, and this is what he was discriminated most for. Even his own followers were sometimes repelled by the way he didn’t mind talking to prostitutes, sinners, tax-collectors, etc. His idea that ALL people, not just the chosen Jews, deserved salvation was considered radical by elitist Pharisees. And BTW, the women in your example DOES get what she needs from Jesus by proving her faith to him, even though he wasn’t planning on reaching out to the Gentiles yet at this time.

A true Christian sometimes is not someone who goes by the name, its someone who has it in their heart. And this can come from unexpected places, sometimes, sadly, apart from the people who use the name the most. Please, try to see where I am coming from…I hope you will agree.
.

I wish I was a more humble and were a better Christian in GOD’s eyes, and would praise GOD more than I do right now. Anyway, unfortunately, as Lord Jesus Christ said, it’s because the world doesn’t know GOD, and thus they don’t understand us, they’d rather receive people coming in their own name, because they understand self-righteousness and human fame, but not righteousness by gift of grace from GOD and praising GOD instead ourselves.
Thanks to GOD only, because He provided us with the means of salvation through repentance of sins and belief in Jesus Christ – liberalism, climate change policies, lgbt and tolerance propaganda will not get us to Heaven, GOD will!
