A WAR RANT
By Bridget

I am so angry and fed up that I am going to rant like there is no tomorrow! I’m going to rant, rave, scream, yell and vent until I’m blue in the face because no one else is willing to do it. I’m going to take up for our soldiers who risk their lives for us every day while the liberals are doing everything in their power to tear them down! If I hear the MSM use the term “cold-blooded massacre” one more time I’m going to scream. The liberals are willing to sacrifice our soldiers just to stick it to Bush and make us lose this war so they can say “I told you so.”The liberals are such vicious, Bush-hating, anti-American, wussies that there is NO WAY we can win this war if this garbage keeps up! The mainstream media and the liberals are actively trying to help our enemies defeat us and we should not stand for it for another moment!! Can you imagine if people had asked for the impeachment of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and called him a war criminal because of all the lives we lost on D-Day? It didn’t and wouldn’t have happened because people understood that war is ugly and lives will be lost. I hate to think of how differently things would have turned out if the media had had the access then that they have now!! American morale would have been at an all time low, our enemies would have known all of our secrets which would have cost more American lives, and we probably would not have won the war because our soldiers would have been worried about how they were being portrayed on the evening news!!

WAR = ” a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations.”

What part of WAR don’t people understand? How dare people judge these soldiers by normal standards? Our soldiers are in a stressful, life-threatening situation every day and they have a split-second to make life and death decisions.
The Iraq war is a very complicated war and it sickens me that “armchair soldiers” sit back and criticize the decision-making of soldiers who have to determine whether someone is a friend or foe in the blink of an eye. The Haditha situation was so infuriating to me!!! The media was so excited at just the possibility that it might be true, that they were practically jumping up and down clapping their hands with glee. It’s truly disturbing!
I choose to believe our soldiers unless and until I’m presented with strong, clear evidence to the contrary. That is the LEAST we can do for these brave men who are willing to die for us!!

Before we rush to judgment about the actions of soldiers, there are several things we need to keep in mind when discussing the killing of civilians in war:

1) The enemy is not easy to identify in this particular war because they WILL USE women and children in their effort, therefore our soldiers have to be on guard at all times. EVERY PERSON is a possible threat. Imagine walking around in that situation – never sure if the next person you see is going to try and kill you or not.

2) Because of the fact that our enemy is not easily identifiable, our soldiers have to make decisions in a split-second. They don’t have the luxury of time, researching, reflection, and 20/20 hind-sight to guide them at that moment. Even if the Haditha civilians were completely innocent, our Marines may not have been able to determine that within the time frame they had. IF it was a mistake (and I’m not saying it was), why can’t we understand that it might have been an honest mistake and not a cold-blooded massacre! To give you an idea of what these guys are facing every day, here’s an excerpt from the book, Generation Kill, which is an account of the marines in the First Recon unit who were some of the 1st soldiers in Iraq.

” …everything about racing up a highway in a country you’re invading is baffling. You pass three dead men by the road, surrounded by weapons, then shepherds in the field behind them waving and smiling. There’s a car with a dead woman shot in the backseat…followed by a burned-up SUV packed with AAA guns in the rear. Many houses we pass have white flags hanging over their front doors, which Marines take to be surrender flags. Then we pass homes with black flags on them. Marines in Alpha Company spot a BM-21, an Iraqi mobile rocket launcher, moving toward First Recon’s convoy. The battion halts and calls in an air strike on it. While they’re waiting, two men pop up from a berm in the field beside Colbert’s vehicle and take off running. Marines train their guns in on them to shoot, but neither of them have weapons, so they let them go.”

“The pattern that’s emerged – being greeted with enthusiastic cheers and waves by the people you see beside the roads, then shot at by people you don’t see behind walls and berms – is beginning to wear on the Marines. ‘These guys waving at us are probably the same ones who were trying to kill us yesterday,’ Person says.”

3) If they make the wrong decision it could cost them their lives. If they have to err on one side or the other, I would prefer they err on the side of caution and safety for themselves.

4) The ROE’s – rules of engagement – change based on the situation and where they are. In one city they may have to shoot at any person they see because they know it is an extremely hostile area, and in another city they may be told to only shoot someone who is shooting at them. To explain this a little better, here’s another excerpt from the book, Generation Kill.

“The ROE under which the Marines operate are quite naturally based on the assumption that legitimate targets are people armed with weapons. The problem is Iraqis dressed in civilian clothes who are armed not with guns but with cell phones, walkie-talkies and binoculars. These men, are serving as forward observers for the mortars being dropped into their positions.”

Later in the book it says…

“The men receive the first hard reports of the heavy fighting in Nasiriyah, of Americans being captured, of mass casualties among the Marines…the news hits Gunny Wynn, the platoon sergeant, hard. Doc Bryan rants, ‘Marines are dying up the road, and we’re sitting back here with our thumbs up our a-es.’ A while later, Doc Bryan’s prayers are answered. At twelve-thirty on the afternoon of the twenty-fourth, a somber Fick gathers his team leaders for a briefing. ‘In approximately one hour, we are going to bust north to the bridge at the Euphrates,” he says. ‘Change in the ROE: Anyone with a weapon is declared hostile. If it’s a woman walking away from you with a weapon on her back, shoot her. If there is an armed Iraqi out there, shoot him. I don’t care if you hit him with a forty-millimeter grenade in the chest.’

When he finished, Espera says, ‘Sir, we’re going to go home to a mess after we start wasting these villages. People aren’t going to like that.’

‘I know,’ Fick says. ‘We now risk losing the PR war. Fighting in urban terrain is exactly what Saddam wanted us to do.’

Our guys should NOT be worrying about the PR war when they are worrying about staying alive.

5) Every war has its share of innocent lives lost. Accidents do happen. It’s a sad, but true part of war, and there will never be a war fought where it doesn’t happen. But the media has not been there in the past to report every single thing that’s happened. I would bet this has been the most humanely fought war in history, but it doesn’t seem that way because of the media’s coverage. I’ve been looking at statistics of civilian casualties in past wars and I’m amazed at the number! A lot of times there were more civilians killed than military folks, but the MSM doesn’t want to remind you of that. Taken in perspective, we have not had a lot of civilian casualties in this war, so don’t let the liberals convince you otherwise.

6) Even the 12 yr old Iraqi survivor admits that she knew a bomb was planted to kill our soldiers. How innocent can these people be if they had knowledge of plans and bombs being used against us? Think about the family of the Marine who was killed by this bomb when you call these people innocent! Just because these people were not known soldiers does NOT mean they were innocent civilians!

7) THIS IS WAR and war is not for pansies, which applies to most of the media and the liberals.

Why aren’t folks giving our soldiers the benefit of the doubt?

Why does the media jump the gun and assume they “massacred” innocent people in cold blood?

Why do the liberals assume our soldiers are in the wrong and the Iraqis are in the right?

Doesn’t this seem backward to you? It does to me!!!

WE WILL LOSE THIS WAR IF we allow things to continue as they are!

We will lose this war if…

1) The MSM continues to let our enemies know every move we make and provides them with important intel on how we are fighting this war

2) The MSM continues to bad-mouth our military and feeds the anti-American sentiment

3) We give in to the liberals desire for us to fight a “nice” war. War, by its very definition, is not nice. We have to fight an aggressive war with the goal of winning it. I believe more lives will be lost due to us trying to fight it nicely than if we just went in and did what we have to do.

4) Our soldiers have to hesitate before every action for fear that they will be court-martialed

5) We pull out too early due to the bad PR of the MSM

6) We continue to have more compassion and understanding for our enemies than we do for our own countrymen

7) We run it the way the liberals want us to run it!

Having said all of that…

DO NOT LET THE LIBERALS CONVINCE YOU THAT OUR SOLDIERS ARE COLD-BLOODED KILLERS! WE CANNOT LET THEM WIN THIS ANTI-AMERICAN/ANTI-BUSH PR WAR. WE HAVE TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE THINGS THEY ARE SAYING AND DOING.

WE ALSO HAVE TO LET THE MEDIA KNOW WE ARE NOT GOING TO PUT UP WITH THEIR TREASONOUS, ANTI-AMERICAN REPORTING.

WE HAVE TO STAND STRONG AND FIRM BEHIND OUR SOLDIERS AND ALLOW THEM TO FIGHT AN AGGRESSIVE, WINNING WAR. WE OWE THEM NOTHING LESS!!!

Ummmm……SWEETHEART…….The war ITSELF is “anti-American. Support the troops you love by wanting them to come home to their families.

War is sometimes necessary. I suppose you think the war to abolish slavery was anti-American and unneccessary. Also, I guess our going in to stop Hitler was wrong too. I would love the troops to come home, but it would certainly be a shame for them to come home and then for the US to be attacked on our own soil. They volunteered to protect us, and they’re doing a great job!

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU — WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIMITED GENIUS AND GENUINE STUPIDITY?

UNLIKE YOU, GENIUS IS LIMITED!!!

Wow, BillforObama, a little angry, aren’t we?

What exactly are these soldiers to win? Bringing a Democracy to a people who dont want it in the first place? (which makes absolutely no sense since a democracy is a system that has to be thought up and implemented within the people)
