I’m supporting Mitt Romney for President

Posted on February 3, 2008. Filed under: Bridget's rants, Politics |

Okay, I’m ready to make my decision public. I’m supporting Mitt Romney for President. This one took me a while to decide on, even though I was leaning towards Mitt the entire time. I guess I was hoping someone who really dazzled me would come out of the woodwork., but they didn’t, so Mitt is the one who who aligns with my beliefs the most. The fact that he’s a Mormon doesn’t bother me. Why should it? Most of the time we get someone in the White House whose faith is different from mine or who doesn’t have a discernible faith at all, and I always vote for someone.

I know some folks thought I would go with Huckabee since he’s been very vocal about being a Christian and a pastor, but he really disappointed me. I don’t know where he got some of his views from, but they certainly didn’t agree with mine. Anyway, that should put to rest the rumors that evangelicals just vote for someone because they’re a Christian. Whether he calls himself a Christian or not, if his views don’t line up with mine more than the others, I will not vote for him.

If someone doesn’t like the fact that Romney’s a mormon, and is thinking about not voting at all or voting for one of the others, I suggest they imagine what it would be like if Hillary or Obama won. NOTE: A vote for either one of them is a vote for Socialism/Communism!! Just because we may not have an ideal, perfect candidate does not mean that we should let one of the libs win.

Go Romney!! Win in ’08!

Anyway, I’d love to hear who you’re voting for and why…

Huckabee-I was not convinced that he held any “liberal” viewpoints. I still think we should be careful during campaign time to believe labels his opponents put on him.

Huckabee-he was the funniest choice by far.Reagan was funny–Huckabee is funny.

I know what you’re saying, and I really tried to like Huckabee and was hoping he might be the right candidate, but the more I heard him say, the more liberal he sounded. However, the big issue that turned me off to him was his immigration stance. He said denying state benefits to illegal immigrants is “un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.” I think he’s trying to water that down a little now because he realized that conservatives didn’t like it, but I totally disagree with him on that point. He also seems to say what people want to hear sometimes, instead of being firm on what he thinks. He’s kind of a “wussy” when talking about global warming. I think it’s because he doesn’t want to offend those who are so fanatical about it. But hey, he might end up getting the VP spot if McCain wins, so he might end up in DC anyway.

Today I asked my US attorney friend his concerns about Huckabee. He said Huck really went out of his way to allow that parolee killer to get out.Huck made some comment about “looking into the guys soul” and knew he was a good guy. As a prosecuter I’ve seen people make this naive mistake.Do you have any articles on this issue? Also, there was an issue whether he told the truth about paroling the guy.
