The US is the only G8 country that does not have some form of socialized medicine program. Of the G8 countries, the US has one of the worst infant mortality rate (on par with many 3rd world countries) -- an indicator of how effective the healthcare system is.

In international comparisons of the health of people, outcomes, quality, etc., the US is no-where near the top -- countries such as France, Sweden, etc. are far superior.

I live in a country with socialized medicine -- I can pick my doctor, get second opinions, have access to top treatments and technology, and have a pretty darn good quality of life. I know that if I get a bad chronic condition, I'll never have to mortage my home, or worry about what a private insurer might NOT cover.

If I were you, I would worry more about the influential misinformation that US private insurers are spreading through PR companies hired to do that.

Yes, every system has its problems, but of the developed countries the US is in one of the worst positions.

race doesnt matter, people. whites are no different from blacks are no different from asians. we are all the same. the only thing not on your face that changes consistently by race is skin color. oh, wow, that makes soembody different, now doesnt it? race is never more than skin deep. and treating someone any differently because of race is both morally lacking, and logically incorrect.

there's nothing wrong with gay people. i dot think, though, that a full day should be taken off for this. harvey was a good man, (ant to disagree with the article, logic says that teachers cant change your sexuality, no matter how young). a full day isnt needed, but ive got nothing against having some recognition of him.

I felt the terrible sting of racism in 1972 when I was denied employment with the local Gas&Electric company because "the Government told us we needed more black people." So much for equality.

Anyone who sees that pasted together bunch of words and believes that Obama favors terrorists over America, or Islam over America, is clearly ignorant. Anyone who has be read about world relgions, should know that Islam is indeed one of the great religions of the world, along with Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism. All have contributed to our history, art, science and civilization. Obama said "Many other Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a majority Muslim country. I know because I am one of them." He is not saying he is a Muslim. Even if he did, so what? The Muslim faith and Christianity have most of the same tenets and beliefs in God and that foster morality and provide guidance for living that will lead to a joining with God. Radicals, fundamentalist extremists and terrorists can be of any religion. We are at war with terrorism, not Islam. I believe he was speaking to an audience that he felt needed to understand that the US was not engaged in a religious war. Realize that some people claiming to be of the Christian faith can pervert their religion to justify to themselves and others who share their beliefs, horrible acts against humanity and claim they are doing the will of God. Thank God and all that is holy that America has at it's foundation, separation of church and state so that our government will never become a theocracy or be engaged in a religious war--that is as long as we continue to be a nation governed by judicial law and not one based upon religious law.

Why would you have to wait 6 months to get a simple medical test? If everyone in the US had health care would your doctor and his/her office disappear? Don't you think new medical facilities and more doctors be motivated to serve the additional patients that now go without? Have you ever seen Sick Around the World that looks at 5 different countries' systems ? It may open your mind. Oh and by the way, my health insurance company decides when I can see the doctor, when I can get a medical test and how often and what medications I can have. Me and my doctor continually have to negotiate with them, spending ours and piles of paper and phone calls. They do it for profit---to keep from spending more of the premiums and the return on their investment from those premiums.
I really like that the CEO of my health insurance company made $23,000,000. in compensation in 2007. The next 7 executives in his company got a total of $100,000,000. You'd think they were the best doctors in the world, but they are not, they produce nothing and take our money.
